While the Yankees' play this season has soured me on blogging recently, it has not soured my love for the team or this great game. Watching the pre-game ceremony at Yankee Stadium was touching and quite honestly, very moving. Seeing some of our former greats and their families coming back to honor a place that for many, was the home of memories both as a child and as an adult was amazing. I don't know who got the loudest cheers; Yogi, Bobby Murcer's family or Bernie Williams. A part me hoped that Donnie and Joe would be there, but seeing as they're out in LA now, it was wishful thinking at best.
Something struck me though, as I was watching the video footage and parade of players take the field. What other teams out there boast the storied past that we do? What other teams can have a moment like this and still have more names left over than the ones who are called? It's part of why no matter how bad we play, there will never be another team like the Yankees or another place like Yankee Stadium. Let's hope the Yankees close the park out with the same kind joy it opened with; a Yankees win.
I don't blame your lack of posting with the horrible job the Yanks have done this season. I wanted to stop as well, but blogging was a safer way to voice my frustration than the usual... punching pillows, stomping around and throwing whatever is handy at my TV.
I loved the ceremony they had. They did everything right... before they handed it over to espn.
I agree with you on the fact that no other team can come close to this. Yankee Stadium has witnessed a lot. This game has to be won. If they don't [baseball gods forbid] they'll be eliminated on the final game in the House... and that's just saddd.

We won! So we get to end our time at that great ballpark on a high note. Andy Pettitte gets the last win, Jose Molina hits the last HR. I'll even do the old GDP like I used to. A memorable game deserves it, I think.
