Thank God for Alex Rodriguez.
Last night he was our only source of offense. Tonight, he hit a HR, was robbed of another one, had an RBI double and basically showed Yankees fans everywhere what they had been missing while he was on the DL. Calling him the best player on this team is neither a stretch nor hyperbole. He is the difference-maker. And aside from the miraculous return of Alex Rodriguez, the rest of the offense came back too! 8 runs on 13 hits, which is the most we've had of either since the beginning of the month. Johnny Damon went 2-4 with 2 RsBI, Bobby Abreu went 2-5, as did Robbie Cano and Chad Moeller. It was great to see the guys hit the ball and score runs, something I think they momentarily forgot they were getting paid to do. I don't think we're out of the woods by any means, but at least this game gave me hope that with Alex regularly in the lineup, things may POSSIBLY go back to normal. Or some semblance of normal. Either one will do fine for me.
Is Darrell Rasner the ace of the staff, or should we wait another start? 7 IP, 5 H, 1 BB, 6 K, 1.89 ERA. That's the best on the damn team right now. Except Mo. His ERA is 0.50. But he's also God, so what do you expect? I didn't think the day would come when Andy/Wang/Moose would not be the stopper......and Darrell Rasner would be. At this point, I think we'd all agree that we'll take what we can get. And Joba closed out the game, pitching the last two innings and giving up only 1 hit and striking out 3. According to Girardi, tonight's game was the beginning of the process that will be converting him to the rotation. My only issue is that I hope they're doing this because it's time and because they truly don't want him languishing in the bullpen too much longer and NOT because they're panicking and getting desperate as a result of our poor play. I can only see it backfiring on us if that's what's going on. I think he'll do great in the rotation, so I'll trust that the powers-that-be know what they're doing. Overall, this was a much needed breath of fresh air after the last 5 or 6 games of stagnant, fetid air. I hope this lasts beyond tonight.

You are so right about A-Rod. How bad did we miss him?
Also, I really do not like Joba moving to the rotation. I think he could be a top closer and he shortens games pitching in the 8th inning.
Not a good move.

He's not meant to be a closer/bullpen guy, though. I could see them doing it last season to get him innings and because we desperately needed someone to bridge to Mo. But we have some good bullpen guys in the minors right now, and with Farnsworth pitching decently, Ramirez doing well, as well as others.....the need for him to stay in the pen isn't there anymore.
He was touted as a dominant starter, we should let him be that. If it turns out he can't hack it as a starter, he has proven success in the pen, so it's not like he'll cease to be useful.
