Crazy Stein's triumphant return!

crazy_stein_4.jpg Oh I know, he's a sight for sore eyes.  He's a tradition here at Yankees Chick; whenever we sweep a team, up goes the picture of Crazy Stein.  Because who else truly represents this team other than a half-cocked George Steinbrenner?  Didn't think so.

I was shocked to see Rasner pitching as well as he was and even more shocked that Girardi pulled him at only 76 pitches.  Please don't be doing a Torre.  Please.  Rasner could have kept pitching, we were winning by a rather decent margin for once.  I thought he filled in for Hughes quite admirably and let's face it.....none of us could have seen him doing this.  But with Kennedy being demoted earlier, that means one thing and one thing only.  Igawa.  So the days of decent pitching are soon to be gone.  Ohlendorf, Farnsworth and Rivera all relieved him and all did superb.....even Nuke.  He's been rather good lately, belying the fact that he really sucks.  But I'm all for smoke and mirrors if it gets us somewhere.

So the Yankees decided to try and win this game, even after falling behind 2-0 early.  Now customarily, we would have folded like a cheap suit and lost 12-0, but we actually stormed back with improbable verve (thanks, Rewlster) and clubbed 14 hits and 8 runs.  We got a lot of contribution today, with many of our hitters having great games.  Johnny Damon, continuing from the great night he had yesterday, went 2-5, Derek Jeter went 4-5, Bobby went 3-4, Godzilla went 2-4 with 2 RsBI, and poor hapless Robbie Cano finally did something, hitting a HR in the 3rd.  He's still hitting .154, but it's a start, you know.

its good to be over .500 again. at this point last year we were 16-17 and we are 17-16 now so only a game different, hopefully we dont fall as far back though.

Right now, I'm just happy that we are finally over the .500 mark for the year. We definitely cannot have a repeat of last year and hope to put everything together after the all-star break. It has to happen much sooner. Fortunately, we are only 3 games out of first. If the starters can heal from injuries that may also make a difference -not to say that the reserve players are not playing their hearts out at the moment -kudos to them too.

Cano's slump has me a bit worried. He appears to be trying too hard and this could be a mental thing more than anything else. He had a great Spring training, so let's hope that this won't last much longer. On the other hand, Melky is having one heck of a year thus far. He leads the team in dingers and has 17 ribbies batting near the bottom of the lineup for a good portion of the year.

Pulling Rasner after 76 pitches was indeed puzzling. Girardi stated that Rasner had enough to throw about 110. I guess the coach had reasons, I just hope this will not wear out the bullpen.

Anyone knows who starts tomorrow against Carmona?

You know all is right in the world of baseball when the Crazy Stein appears. It's about time. I thought Rasner should have pitched the seventh, showa. I guess Girardi wanted to keep some guys sharp after having been swept by Detroit and with the day off tomorrow. But I would have given Rasner the ball, especially after retiring his last eight batters faced. For the series against Cleveland, Pettite faces Carmona Tuesday, Wang faces Lee Wednesday, and Mussina gets Byrd Thursday.

i had to pay a visit for the Crazy Stein!! i just knew he'd be here to greet me; thank you.

and i completely agree with you beth, why take the kis out with so few pitches...stretch him out a bit. rasner may have slightly tougher time with better hitting teams, but he throws quality strikes and you can't ask for more than that. maybe ian kennedy will get some of that needed aggressiveness back when he returns.

I think you're right that the Yankees may call up Igawa, especially with Alan Horne hurt. Igawa hasn't been horrible at SWB, but far from dominating. Nuke's last nine appearances have been more like Cool Hand Nuke. Kudos to the guy; he's been very good lately, which means a lot without Bruney.
