S.uck > The Yankees
We stink. That's being kind, but truthful. I hate that we can't score runs, that our pitching can't hold leads and that our manager is making the same kinds of mistakes we lambasted the previous manager about. The last three games have been just awful and while in some of them we've gotten good pitching (Ian Kennedy didn't pitch poorly today), we have been unable to get anything done at the plate. We're digging the same kind of hole now, that we've dug the last few seasons. And if the hole gets any bigger, we won't be able to climb out of it.
These are the games we should be able to win; we have the lineup to get runs across the plate. I just wish they would all hit at the same time, rather than all slump at the same time. It seems like no one else is really picking the others up, except for maybe Jorge and Jose Molina. Chad Moeller was doing well for us before he was DFA'd. Our catchers. One of whom is going to be 37 in August. In fact, Jorge was our sole source of offense today, hitting a 3-run triple in the 6th. Johnny Damon went 4-5 today, Derek went 3-5 and Alex went 2-4. Other than that.......bupkiss. Jorge's triple was a PH affair, and if Girardi had put someone else in, we might have been shut out.
I hope that we can take the last two games of this series and force a split.

I don't know that we stink but I also do not know how we can have 2 of our 5 starters developing and expect to be in a pennant race. Kennedy showed signs of the pitcher he could become. He also looked like a nervous rookie and had problems with his command. I hate to concede the season, but I have a bad feeling that this is not a championship caliber team. I hope I am wrong.

The walk-off loss was heartbreaking, and it is disturbing that run production is down, many have come at a time when the pitching would have been good enough to win in most games. Unfortunately, we do have a lot of developing players. Hughes and Kennedy -we hope- will begin to hit their strides and become reliable starters. Moose has truly tried to pitch his heart out, but age has caught up with him. Periodically Jeter, A-Rod and Matsui have visited the DL, Bruney may be gone for the season and it appears that Posada may miss more time as well. On top of this Cano and Giambi have not gotten out of hitting slumps. All this may not add up to a championship season for 2008, but it appears better than paying top bucks for over-the-hill big name players that do not live up to the "hype." I think signing Pavano, Wright, K. Brown and others may have enlightened the team to turn to the farm system.
