The train keeps on rollin'.

The Yanks have been playing well this spring training.  You had the hard fought win against the Pirates (although we should have won that game more easily than we did) and then today's game against the Blue Jays, which we won 7-2.  I don't necessarily believe a good ST is an indicator of a blistering season, but I do hope that we start the season off with a little more energy than we did the last couple years.  I feel like we do well in ST and then once the season starts, a power switch gets turned off and we just stall.  Ian Kennedy started this afternoon and did a great job, striking out four and walking none in 4.1 innings.  Among some of the other pitchers that relieved Kennedy, Nuke LaFarnsworth pitched an inning and gave up no runs (SHOCKING) Joba Chamberlain pitched an inning and struck out the side.  Compare, contrast.......compare and contrast.  Poor Nuke.  Maybe one day.

Aside from great pitching we got today, we also got a decent chunk of offense, belting 15 hits and scoring 7 runs.  A lot of regulars didn't play today, but that didn't stop us from smacking the ball around.  Johnny Damon went 2-3, Robbie Cano went 2-4, Shelley Duncan went 2-5, Wilson Betemit went 2-4 (3 RBI) and Cody Ransom [great name or what?] went 2-3.  I love that a lot of the players who have been "getting it done" so far, have been the new kids, not the veterans.  I think it shows a lot of promise as to what this team will be capable of not only this season, but in the future.  I can't wait.

It's a good point about the offense coming without so many regulars (A-Rod, Jeter, Giambi, Posada, Abreu). That's a really good sign this team has some depth. Duncan has had his hand in so much this Spring. Betemit's warming up, and it was terrific to see him paste a homer off a good pitcher in Accardo. Kennedy was definitely sharp, his curve was snapping, and no walks is really key for a young pitcher. In some ways, Kennedy intrigues me as much as any of the young trio. He just goes about his business, and has had a solid Spring.

Good things to come, Beth.
