It's official; Alex signs!
Happy days are here again; Alex signed his contract today, ending ulcer-related illnesses all over the Yankee landscape. Thank God. In his press conference, he said that Boras lied to him about the Yankees being interested in him and that he would "be needing him no longer". I don't know how much of that is PR spin and how much of it is truth, but I'll consider it closer to the truth side if Alex fires him. If it is true, Boras is an idiot.

Onto the Mitchell Report. I have a hard time finding a report written by a sitting member of the Red Sox Board of Directors unbiased. Especially when the only major Red Sox player on the list is Mo Vaughn. I have my suspicions about a couple current members of the team, but sans a failed drug test, it's just suspicions. I would have found this report to be more valid if they had used a neutral third party to conduct this investigation, rather than someone SITTING ON THE RED SOX BOARD OF DIRECTORS. I've seen a photo where he's practically in Larry Lucchino's suit pocket. I'm sure his intentions were good, but this report was basically Google+Jose Canseco's book+the testimony of former team employees. How on earth will any of that be, to sadly quote Fox News, "fair and balanced".......not that Fox News is any of those things, but that's a separate post. Now, I know that Roger and Andy are on the list and to avoid any call of favoritism here, I had my mom read the stuff on Roger and Andy. She's a huge Cubs fan and probably hates the Yankees more than Red Sox fans do, so you know she's not going to be nice for my sake. Her exact words were "is this all they have? Did they fail any drug tests?" So, someone who hates the Yankees and therefore has no vested interest in any of their players, finds it a load of bunk. My dad, the born-in-Boston-will-be-buried-in-his-Fisk-jersey Red Sox fan, thinks it's a load of **** BECAUSE there are no current Red Sox players on the list. So that's two non-Yankees fans who don't buy it. You don't need to know how I feel, it should be obvious. With Barry Bonds, we have a failed test. When he was indicted, the grand jury said they had failed tests and that was one reason they indicted him for perjury. Until I see some failed drug tests, this report is 5-day old fish; I'm not buying it. This is the last I'm going to speak on the subject, it's too boring to warrant any further discussion. I know high-school dropouts who could write a better report than this, it makes the Warren Commission look enthralling.

Kudoes Beth!
I couldnt have said it better...my sentiments exactly. Let me see a failed test and then we are speaking. U already know i was very upset to see Andy's name there...

So do you still believe that Clemens and pettite are innocent?

I agree that the report is lacking in many ways. I don't think though it had much to do with Mitchell's affiliation with the Red Sox. It only makes sense that it focuses so much on Ny b/c the two goofs they based the whole report on were NY based. It lacks a lot of credibility when the the best you can do.
I agree with Lo. Show me the positive test. The coerced testimony of two guys facing jail time doesn't really do it for me.
I originally doubted McNamee's claims about Roger and Andy, but now I'm not so sure. Not sure if you get YES, but Dave Justice was on the "Yankees Hot Stove" show to clear his name. He said McNamee put HGH in his locker but after Justice saw it was administered via needle he didn't use it b/c he doesn't do needles. He palyed dumb to even knowing what HGH was at the time. His admission that it was in his locker and in the Yankee clubhouse now makes me wonder. We always knew it was there, but never really heard a player admit to it. I'm not as sure of their innocence as I was 2 hours ago. If Clemens is truly innocent as he claims, he as to sue. He has no other choice. No lawsuit and I'm inclined to think he's guilty.

I agree with you, Beth. This is so yesterday's news. I am surely not advocating these guys get off easy in any shape or form if they actually have been proven to have juiced, but as you mentioned, show me the test results.
As for Pettite and Clemens, hey, they are Yankees and they are great effective pitchers; that automatically makes them big targets. I mean, who is going to go one for days about Larry Bigbie being on the list ??? I was sorry to see now ex-Met Paul LoDuca on the list.
Anyway, come April 2008, who will really care.
