Can anyone give me one good reason why we should give 38 year old Mariano Rivera a 4 year deal? 3 years might be pushing it, but he wants 4? I love Mo, you all know that. I've watched him pitch for the Yankees practically the whole time I've been a fan. But this is insane.....is Boras his agent? Maybe he saw how the team gave in to Posada and he thought he could squeeze them for a few extra ducats. Well.....sorry Mo, but no dice. You've been a bit unreasonable about your contract situation and yeah we should have signed you and Jorge before the season started, but we didn't and now you're using that as leverage to basically extort us. I can't dig that. Maybe we should just let you walk or head out to LA with Joe and Donnie and Jim-Bob and all the other Waltons, because 3/45 is as good as you're going to get from us. Take it or leave it and stop being a jackass.

Alex is also 32 and in **** good physical condition....he's never been a huge injury risk. Mariano Rivera is 38 years old. I don't feel comfortable giving a 38 year old the same kind of money for 4 years, I'm giving a 32 year old for 10. Even at 42, if Alex in the field is slowing down, he can still be serviceable as a hitter. What else can Mo do aside from throw a baseball? Also, if Alex is in chase of the all-time HR record, that contract will pay for itself. Alex will decline, but I don't think it's going to be a "falling off the cliff" type situation.

i dont think the yankees can afford to loose mo. what will their bullpen look like? farnsworth as the closer? Mussina in the rotation so that joba can close? I dont see ANY other solution for the yankees. that said i dont think mos getting a better offer anywhere else so i do think he will evuntaly agree to this one.
