This just in from ESPNews:
The Daily News is reporting that Joe Girardi is the Yankees new manager. Quick little blurb, but I thought I'd pass it along. Either on Friday or Saturday I had heard a leak that Mattingly was the new manager, so at this point who the **** knows. I don't think the team would be in trouble with either one of them, so it's a "six of one, half-dozen of the other" kind of thing.

Edit: Buster Olney is speculating that it's a 3 year deal and worth about $2mil per year. There's a video link if you want to watch it for yourself: http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/video/videopage?videoId=3084244&categoryId=2521705&n8pe6c=3

I'm somewhat wary of the Daily News and Olney reports, mainly because these are based on tea-leaf, Kremlinology-style sign-reading. They may well be right, but I think your own uncertainty is well-founded. There seem to be mixed signs all around. I feel the same way, the Yankees will be fine with either.
