And our new manger is..........
Girardi offered managerial job

While this is great news for the team as it fills one vacancy, we're also losing Don Mattingly as he informed the team he won't be coming back next season. His son is in the Dodgers minor league system, so he might end up out in LA (I've heard rumors that Torre might take a coaching gig out there). It's a shame we have to lose him, he could have been a great bench coach for Girardi, but if he feels his place is no longer with the Yankees, I'm sad to see him go. Good luck Joe!

I too am sad that Mattingly in all probability will move on. But Girardi I believe was more qualified for the job, and the Yankees made a terrific move both in whom they hired and when. Girardi is a very hard-working, smart, hands-on guy who will bring intensity and the desire to win that is just what the Yankees need.
This helps to trump the news about A-Rod, who can go to blazes. Sure, the Yankees have a big offensive void to fill, especially from the right side. But A-Rod has always been a me-first guy; he just tempered that somewhat in the last four years. This move from him was an abject disgrace, particularly because he was due to get a big raise despite his playoff failures, reportedly wouldn't return management's calls to meet, wouldn't even meet face-to-face before the decision, and concocted this specious reason that he couldn't make a decision without knowing what the free agents would do--then turned around and decided to opt out despite the Yankees' threat. Good riddance to him and his ego. The Yankees can get three very good players for what the planned to offer him, and can probably address a few genuine needs for the team.
A-Rod, like Pavano, is dead to me.

Mattingly leaving will just set up his inevitable eventual return--as manager. It would do him good to see how another organization is run and pick up some managerial experience.

Yeah, I'm not happy Alex is gone. I probably could write a diatribe about how PO'd I am at him for doing this, but what would be the point. Our team is in a lurch now, and if we thought this past season was ugly.....I have a feeling the worst is yet to come.
I still like him as a player and will continue to follow his career in hopes he eclipses Bonds in the coming years....it's just a **** shame he won't be doing it in a Yankee uniform. Then again, if I got treated by the fans and the media the way he did.....I'd probably bolt too.

I'm really ticked that A-Rod opted out. He said all along that he wanted to stay a Yankee and open up the new stadium with Jeter and Mo. It was all BS. He should ahve at least met with the Steins/Cashman to talk about the direction of the organization if he was really concerned about Posada, Mo and Andy. I lost a lot of respect for him for how he handled this. I'd pass blame on Boras, but he works for Alex. They knew what they were doing. Pretty shady if you ask me.

Forgot to add that I'm a fan of the Girardi signing. I hate to see Donnie go, but it's probably for the best.

Is this even English? Have you heard of punctuation? It might make your comment a tad easier to read.

"the organization should be doing something to the players they spending all that money on and getting up there striking out."
Can you say Carl "DL" Pavano? The man averaged over $1 Million a start!!!! Think about if all of us were paid $1 Million for each day of work!
