Well, thank you New York.
After the Sox won earlier, I was hoping the Yankees could pull out a victory to salvage the scenario I had wanted for this, my big day. At least Fatty McPorkRind's no-no got dashed. In any event, I spent the better part of today out shopping, although I eventually just settled on a book about JFK and lunch at Joe's Crab Shack. I thank the Yankees for giving me a reason to watch the game over on MLB.TV later. On to the game.........I feel bad for Moose. I think he was pulled unjustly (what else is new?) and with only 79 pitches, I don't think there was any reason to go to the pen. I think Torre had an itchy trigger finger since he let Wang go all 9 innings last night. Who knows what Moose would have done if left in, but this was just another example of Torre yanking starters before they need to be pulled from the game. Fortunately Mo saved everyone's sorry asses and aside from Moose, gave us quality pitching tonight. Ain't this something; we win our second straight series, we have a 3 game winning streak and the offense showed up for all those games. And we got quality pitching too! Oh boy if this is the tide starting to turn........

That said, thanks to Alex, he really didn't have to labor that hard in the 9th. Talk about insurance runs. We only really needed one or two to come in.....not all of them. But I'm not complaining. The other big offensive moment came in the 8th inning with Bobby's tie-breaking two-run double. So Alex and Bobby get the gold stars for tonight's game. We also got 2 RBIs from Robbie Cano tonight, one of which came on a broken-bat triple. Even Miguel Cairo got a hit tonight along with some decent "D". I think this series has found him to be quite serviceable over there at 1B. Also, congrats to Joe for getting his 2,000th win. If the offense hadn't bailed him out.....yeah, well. Be thankful it did.

well the yanks pulled out all stops for you in the 9th...happy birthday!!
"Fatty McPorkRind" priceless. the best part about the whole thing is that he was down to the last out of the game.

Happy birthday!
That was some game - boring thoughout (even though it was with good pitching, so I guess I can't complain).
and then the last two or three innings- WOW. it was a whole another game!
Can I give an honorable mention on the job Cairo is doing offensively and defensively. especially the plays he made in the 9th (the stretch to save A-rod an error and the last out too!)
I'm so glad Abreu and A-rod are really coming around.
Congrats to Torre for his 'first man ever to get 2000 wins and 2000 hits'! =)

Beth, you got a terrific birthday present from the Yankees. Two straight series is very good, especially against teams that vexed the Yankees earlier this year. Abreu is really looking good at the plate now, and the three-four punch of him and A-Rod is just deadly when on, as they have been. A-Rod is positively destroying teams in the 9th inning.
I am inclined to agree about yanking Moose, although in Torre's defense, when Moose has started to get hit, he's often gone south. But Myers is really not a lefty specialist. Lefties are hitting .333 off him, righties .170. Mariano is still the man.
The team is looking good, 6 of 8 is really good, and let's get a great June from the Yankees. Happy Birthday again.

I try to keep my nicknames for Schilling on a constant rotation. Don't want any of them to wear out their welcome.
But yeah, that was a great top of the 9th inning. It was nice to see the **** bats wake up.....Contreras is good, but he's not that good. I couldn't believe we had at one point, only one run.

Thank you and abso-freakin-lutely. After the Sox tied the game, I was thinking the worst. That'll teach me. :-D

Oh sure. Cairo has been quite the spectacle over at 1B, but in a good way. I wasn't expecting him to be this decent. No one was thinking "second coming of Gehrig", but he's been better than what our options previously had been.

Thanks, Jason. Yeah, I see what you're saying about Moose (he has been horrible this season) but after seeing people talking about his post-game interview, he was pissed....and rightly so. I don't think he was on the verge of falling apart. He was cruising all night and I think had he been showing some signs of losing it earlier, I wouldn't have faulted Torre for doing what he did.
I like that our offense is coming around. We got the old Bobby back and the April A-Rod is rearing its ridiculous head. We obviously have a tough fight ahead of us, but if the Sox start to swoon (their offense is lagging) and we start to swell.....getting it to within 5 games at the AS break gives us a fighting chance.

That's a good point about Moose. I absolutely HATE how quickly pitchers are pulled and I HATE that Moose didn't get the win tonight after how great he was. HOWEVER, this season, Moose has been really BAD when he gets hit hard, giving up leads; so... I guess there was no other choice.
It just wouldn't have seemed as bad if the bullpen wasn't so bad. What's up with Myers?
And not to ruin your birthday mood, I really wasn't going to mention KFF (my nickname for him- Kyle F-ing Farnsworth) if he wasn't so worthless! Thank goodness for Mo. Gotta go to Mo! =)
p.s. Heeheehee =P a one-hit game in the ninth! Heeheehee =P

Torre's picking up his 2,000th win is really huge, and a great accomplishment, now 10th on the all-time list. That's just incredible. We've had our problems with Torre, and sometimes it's seemed that they've won in spite of some his moves as much as because of them, but he's really been a godsend for much of his tenure here, and it's hard to imagine a better manager for the media pressure cooker that is New York. It's an absolutely amazing accomplishment to win 2,000 games as a major-league manager.

BTW- I just saw the postgame on tivo and WOW! Does Moose look PISSED OFF!!! He's usually so emotionless and dry, but he's not being shy about expressing his distaste for being pulled tonight! =(
Also, Proctor actually was decent so in my opinion, he is not included in the bullpen imploding tonight! =)
