This team is killing me.

I feel like printing this out and mailing it to the front office.  Would you continue patronizing a restaurant that served you crappy food time and time again?  Why do we shell out tons of money to watch this team only to get this garbage in return?  I put out close to $150 a year to follow this team.  That's MLB.TV Premium and this blog.  I know people who pay that much and then tack Extra Innings on top of it.  Why are we paying all this money for a sub-standard product?  I have no doubts that this team will be booed when we get back to New York and I have no doubts that by August or early September, the seats will be half-empty.  The fans have every right to be pissed off at this garish display.

This is the 3rd straight series we've lost to a sub-standard team.  I had a feeling we'd lose tonight anyway, since Bedard is a lefty and we can't hit them for s--t.  It was nice to see that Mo recovered from whatever ailed him last night so that he could pitch in this game.  It sure would have been nice to see him out there last night when we could have used him, but I guess I'm not the genius that Joe Torre is, and why he's got the cushy job and I don't.  The offense sucked tonight, Roger sucked tonight.....all around great game.  Just what I like to spend my valuable time watching.   Thankfully I was watching my Eagles DVD as well, or the evening would have been a total wash.

Anyone who still harbors delusions that this team will be making the playoffs needs to do some math.  In order for this team to win 91 games, which is 10 over .500, we'd have to win 2 out of 3 games in every 3 game series we play and 2 out of 4 games in every 4 game series we play.  Do you think we're doing that?  **** no.  We can't even beat the s--t teams in the NL West.  91 games isn't getting us into the playoffs, even if we manage to do that.  And please don't bring up last year's Cardinals.  I'm aware of their record and what they accomplished.  Means nothing.  Just like 1978 means nothing.  Everything is now meaningless.  I didn't think we'd be out of it by the All-Star break, but **** if these guys aren't trying to speed up their off-season vacation plans.  I'd ask again what needs to happen for this team to shake off the malaise, but it's getting to the point where even if they manage to do that, it'll be too late.  We had a chance.  We won 9 in a row, got to within 7.5 games of the Red Sox and then like usual.....we completely fell to s--t.  If there's anything I hate, it's waste.  And this season has been utter and complete refuse.

meanwhile of course the sox just got swept by the mariners, but at this point what difference could it possibly make?

This team has been a colossal dud, nothing short.

//meanwhile of course the sox just got swept by the mariners, but at this point what difference could it possibly make?//

It makes no difference because we couldn't gain any ground. Had we been able to gain a couple games in the interim, I'd be more involved, but at this point, I don't care what the Sox are doing anymore. On one hand it's like "haha, you got swept", but how many times has that happened to us....and by **** teams?

The players on this team are too good to be playing this bad. That's why it s-ucks more than it should.

I don't blame you one bit for feeling cheated as a consumer. I share all that, given my own expenses through MLB TV and the blog. This team has been bafflingly horrible this year, way worse than the skein they had in 2005, way worse.

That's what has me completely baffled as well. There are several future Hall-of-Famers on this team, and it's sputtering in a fit of futility. That this lineup has gone south is much more than a major disappointment. It's a waste.

"There's nothing worse than wasted talent." Lorenzo Anello, "A Bronx Tale."

Honestly, a part of me thinks they are just sinking into the s-uck, if you know what I mean. They can read the standings, they know what the media is saying about them....what if they're just doing what they're being expected to do? I'm no psychologist, so I can't speak from knowledge, but from what I've seen....that's almost what it looks like. I think that's what's most disappointing about this. They have the talent to play better, but it's like they don't want to.

My dad tells me I should cancel my subscriptions, but that would be taking my anger too far. I hate them and what they're putting me and other fans through, but I don't hate them enough to say, "F--k you, I'm out of here."

It smacks of depression, more than just pressing as Torre would call it. They're painfully conscious of how bad they're struggling, which just exacerbates the poor play.

I won't quit on them either. In for a penny, in for a pound, or rather in for $150, in for a...well, $150 is what I'm in for, plus the heart, soul, and all that other stuff.

Maybe they just need to accept that they won't be making the playoffs and just play to have fun again. If there's no expectations on them anymore, maybe they'll go back to looking like they're enjoying themselves. They look catatonic out there. I want to feel bad for them because I don't know how I'd handle having people talk smack about me all the time, but I also shouldn't feel bad for them because they're freakin' professionals and should be able to deal with adversity. Depressing ain't the word for it anymore.

Yeah, I asked my dad if canceled all his subscriptions after the Sox fell apart at the end of last season and just looked at me and said, "No, you're right." He hasn't talked about baseball a lot lately, probably because he thinks it'll **** me off, but what am I going to retort with? His team is having the better year; I can accept that.

"Maybe they just need to accept that they won't be making the playoffs and just play to have fun again"
you know what...that might be just what the doctor ordered. then at least we fans might start enjoying watching baseball again. this IS supposed to be fun...right?

I don't like losing, I don't like not making the playoffs, and I don't like math. So I guess you can say I pretty much haven't changed since I was six.

Play to have fun again? Sounds like a plan. It worked in Little Big League. I love that movie.

But in all seriousness, barring some divine intervention, this team is done. The sad thing is they got divine intervention this week with Seattle's surge of awesomeness. But the Yankees, as usual, refused to take advantage of it. Just like they refuse to take advantage of the talent they have. I'm not sure why they're so sh1tty, but they are. Sh1tty top to bottom.

//Eagles DVD? The Philadelphia Eagles?//

o_O o_O o_O o_O

I hate football.

The Eagles, dude. You know, Hotel California? One Of These Nights? Those guys. I'd rather watch Don Henley bang the drums for a couple hours than see the Yankees find new (and more pathetic) ways to lose games. For being the same age as my parents, they all sound and play phenomenally well. If they go on tour to support their new album, I'm so there.

They are unbelievable... and I mean that in a bad way. And really? Focusing on stuff like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoMDKLFKEuk
instead of the basic work on the field? Hmmm...

Oh, I thought we had to share a team, because I am an Eagles fan. Do you really "hate" football? And yes, I know who the Eagles are, I used to have their greatest hits cd with the Eagle on the front. But I actually do not like them, no offense.

Yes, I really hate football. Why is that so surprising?

//Because you really love baseball!//

What's your point? I didn't know that loving baseball meant you had to like football. The two have nothing to do with each other.

Well, I can name only one person that I have ever known that liked baseball and disliked football. And that person played baseball with me, and did not even watch baseball. So I just found it surprising that you "love" baseball and "hate" football. And when I put a voice with your words, I feel like you are always yelling. haha.

joe, i have to tell you that i hate football too. those friends of mine that are baseball fans also dislike football. i don't think it's uncommon.
Beth: the eagles rock!!

And Beth I wasn't getting on you about not liking football. Like and dislike whatever you want. I just found it rather surprising based on the experience of not knowing many people who love baseball and hate football. That wasn't to say that those people didn't exist.

Don't they? They are so awesome. I've been living on YouTube watching other performances of theirs.

It's fine. It just seemed odd to me that you found it odd. I didn't grow up watching football or knowing anything about it, so I never developed any interest in it when I got older.
