"Eight" Misbehavin'

I know the title is kinda cheesy, but it was either that or "Dinner at Eight".  I think this is more clever, because it'll make you think about what the real title of that is supposed to be.  Well.  We're over .500, we've won our 4th straight series and have won 8 games in a row.  We've also gained a game on the Red Sox, and now are only 8.5 back in the AL East.  With Andy pitching tomorrow night, the chances for a sweep are pretty good.  Our evil plan for world domination is coming together nicely...........

Moose pitched amazing tonight.  Better than last week and better than the week before that.  If he's turned a corner, then we have 4 pitchers capable of a quality start and then some each time out.  You can't ask for more than that.  His final line ended up being 7.2 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 7 SO and 0 BB.  WOOT.   Bruney had a little drama in the 9th, but between him in Myers, they managed to hold the D'Backs to 2 runs and secure our victory.   I didn't think Moose should have been pulled, but I'm not Torre.  If I was, our bullpen might be safer, but that's for another post.

The offense was back again tonight, with all our runs save one, coming on HRs.  Jorge had one, Alex had one (what else is new) and is now 11 from #500 and Godzilla had one to cement our win.  We left the bases loaded once and quite a few LOB, but with 7 runs, I'm not getting on them too much for that.  If we ended up winning this game by 1 run or ended up blowing it, that's another story.  This is another short recap, since this was pretty cut and dry.  Quality start, situational hitting, Yankees victory.  Good formula.

Awesome!! So glad to hear you had a great time. I had a great time watching the game. LOL :-D

Great game tonight and another solid effort by Moose, looks like the rust is off him now and he was dealing. Hopefully they can pull off the sweep and get ready for the Mets, who are struggling right now.

Fatty Mcporkrind as you call him got SHELLED

Mike, I'm glad to hear you had a blast at the game, and you clearly brought some good karma to The Stadium. You picked a great game to see.

I concur about the 8 LOB, which are frustrating, but the four 2-out RBIs in the 4th put the D'Backs away; clutch. Matsui is starting to pick it up nicely. It's hard to overestimate what Abreu and A-Rod are doing right now. A-Rod is getting back to the point where he was in April, where it's almost impossible to pitch to him.

Mussina was great, and it was excellent to see his change-up and curve working so well. He was very sharp, and allowed most of the bullpen some rest. This team is red-hot right now, and earning six games back in two weeks is nothing short of outstanding.

Rocket, Clippard and Wang should be scheduled to pitch against the Mets. I don't know if a sweep of them is possible. Roger and Wang will keep us in the game, and give us the best possible chance to win....I don't know about Clippard. Stranger things have happened, so I won't count it out, but I won't bank on it either. However if the Mets look just lifeless it may not take much work for us to do it.

Yes he did and it was fun to watch. How does one go from a near no-no to getting his backside handed to him the next time out? I probably shouldn't ask that because I bet it's happened to us a few times in recent history. However it's still funnier than ****.

Well, if Bobby is going to keep hitting like he is, then they have no choice but to pitch to him because they can't risk walking Abreu to get him up. Watching Alex demolish pitchers is about as much fun as anything can get.

Mike was looking amazing, absolutely. We needed a performance like this out of him and he gave it to us and then some. I was a little annoyed at the fact he got pulled, I think he could have finished the 8th inning, but it ended up being a non-factor.

It seems little by little, Torre has Mussina going deeper in games, and Mussina certainly is making that possible by pitching so well and efficiently. I wonder if Torre is doing this with some long-term intent, to keep him fresh for the long haul, for the summer grind. I also think that with the game 7-2, and the bullpen not too overworked lately, there was a good opportunity to get Mussina out with a night of good, sharp work under his belt. And Torre did the right thing taking him out in the middle of the inning to let the crowd acknowledge Mussina's excellent work. Torre, and it's good about him, is cognizant of those little things to make pitchers feel good. Mussina deserved to bask in the crowd's appreciation of his work.

"Demolish pitchers" is a good way to describe what A-Rod is doing right now. Torrid doesn't do A-Rod justice right now, or the team for that matter. So much for people trying to pawn off the sweep of Pittsburgh. Arizona is a pretty good ball club, and the Yankees have handled them so far. Let's get that sweep tomorrow.

Our real big test is going to be the Mets, no matter how poor they look when they come into town. After the Mets, it's out to Colorado and San Francisco. Those will be 3 straight series that are really going to test the mettle of this team. Pittsburgh isn't that good (****, I could beat them) and Chicago has been floundering all year. Arizona is better, but they're still an NL West team. Their pitching will be exposed against an AL lineup as stacked as ours is.

We have a serious chance to knock the AL East division lead down to something more than manageable, but they have to keep playing consistently and hope that the sluggish Sox offense gets taken advantage of.
