Captain Clutch.
Okay, so it was an infield squibbler, but it still counts. Yankees win their fourth in a row, which is a sure sign that the apocalypse is coming. Andy Pettitte didn't pitch poorly tonight and two of the runs he gave up were on a horrifically horrible fielding error by Melky which led to an inside the park HR. So I'm not crawling down Andy's throat tonight. The Yankees were giving him their typical offensive effort when he pitches, so I'm not surprised that it came down to heroics in extra-innings just to get a win. I was actually worried they'd lose, since they didn't jack squat going until the 6th inning. As for Andy's line, he gave us 8 innings, 5K, 9 H.....2 HRs, but that inside the park piece of **** shouldn't count against his ERA. Melky screwed up out there, not Andy. Mo pitched 2 innings of relief and thankfully no pitcher who might blow the game actually saw action. Is Torre learning? Probably not, but don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

As I mentioned above, the offense was dismal. We should have done more against Tom "Walter Johnson" Gorzelanny, but we didn't. Jorge, Cairo, Derek, Johnny and Godzilla were the offense tonight, although it came so sporadically and they wasted a lot of chances. I think we left the bases loaded twice. Our Team LOB was 14. That's pitiful. We should be thankful the Pirates are as bad as they are or else we might have lost the game. I'd like to see the offense come back big time tomorrow.....for no particular reason of course.

Another Star goes out to Mo for his relief appearance. The ERA is down to 4.13.....it's normalizing and going down like it should. Perfect.

Oh yes. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Of course, I won't be able to see this because of the MOTHERF--KING STUPID BLACKOUT RULES THAT FUX AND BUD SELIG HAVE SAVAGELY FORCED UPON THE MASSES. Because of these nimrods, I can't watch the game. Yeah he's going to pitch more than once this season, but it's his first start and it's at home. I wanted to see this. But I can't. Because Selig is a money-grubbing assclown.

Not that I'm bitter about that or anything.

beth...you're preachin to the choir...i'm REALLY upset that we're gonna have to listen to tomorrow's game in stead of being able to watch. normally i wouldn't mind so much...but as you say it IS the first time, and at the stadium no less.
we really did leave way too many on base tonight and it was more of a sqeaker than it shoulda been. i'm gonna take heart knowing that earlier this year we would have lost the game, and tonight we didn't

Yeah, if this was early May, we lose the game. I don't mind close games every now and again, because they can't all be blowouts but at the same time, I hate them. I'd rather have the outcome of the game be obvious, rather than something you have to worry about inning to inning.
And Selig and FUX can go kiss my ***.

i couldn't agree with you more. there's nothing like a 5 run 1st inning...it's been especially tough since i quit smoking ( 10 days ago !)

Congrats on that! I'm sure it's tough, but keep at it and you'll be a lot better for it in the end. :-)

thanks! yeah i've made up my mind this time...and i figure if i got through that series in beantown, i can make it through anything.
i have a question...was tonight our toughest match-up pitcher-wise against the pirates? is a sweep more likely now?

OMG! How much longer does Andy need to suffer?! He pitched 8 innings basically giving up only 2 runs (since the other 2 was really Melky's HUGE mistake) I feel so badly for him. he must feel snakebitten. he's gonna have to throw a perfect game to get a frickin win!
Let's stay positive tho since you're right: at least it was different than the games earlier this year.
How AWESOME was MO?!?! Gotta go to Mo! I was on the edge of my seat TERRIFIED Torre would go to the bullpen starting from around the 7th.
Also, I know I keep mentioning him, but I CANNOT get over how much Cairo is coming through in EVERY way- offensively and defensively! WOW! Comeon Cairo!!! =)
BTW- I think the Melky play ******, but I really hope noone (Torre) holds it against Melky too much since bottom line-we won and he had been solid defensively (except this) and he did lay down the beautiful bunt when it was needed. I'm afraid Torre's sharp, quick trigger finger for pulling out pitcher may occur with Melky tomorrow... =\
Can't wait for tomorrow!
Go yankees!

congrats on quitting! I, myself have gone cold turkey 1/1/07 so. take it one game at a time... =P
also, I'm not understanding about what blackout rules and how come you can't watch the game?

//also, I'm not understanding about what blackout rules and how come you can't watch the game?//
Because of FUX's Game of the Week on Saturdays, all baseball games between 1pm and 7pm are blacked out to people not living in that team's market. So unless you live in the Yankees viewing area, you can't watch the games, even if you have Extra Innings or MLB.TV. This forces people to watch the game FUX carries because they assume people would rather watch that game than no baseball at all. It *****.

I'm not sure. Roger might have a short leash tomorrow afternoon. These are the Pirates, so regardless of the pitching match-ups, we should be able to beat them. A sweep would be nice, going into playing the Diamondbacks. We played dismally against NL teams last season in interleague play, so I'm hoping we do better this time around.

wow, that really *****! I never knew about that! And you can't purchase and download it to watch from the internet? that *****.
btw- what's FUX? (I guess I really know NOTHING! =P)
you want me to tape it and mail it to you? =P

FUX = FOX. That's how much I can't stand them. FOX is quite stingy, so I don't even think the game is archived so that those who have MLB.TV can watch it at a later time.
//you want me to tape it and mail it to you? =P//
Oh no, you don't have to do that. It was sweet of you to suggest, though. I'll listen to the game through Gameday Audio (it comes with MLB.TV Premium, which I have) so at least I won't be completely unable to follow the game.

That is rule by MLB is pretty stupid. I wasnt aware of it.

Count me as a member of the choir here. I remember the days when the TV picked one Game of the Week on Saturdays. They didn't monopolize the schedule. And blackouts were only local so as not to compete with the gate at the stadium.
I'm still steamed that I couldn't watch a TB-Bal game on the last Saturday of the season in 05. Byrnesie was an Oriole then. I live in Oakland , CA and so was not going to be able to go to the game anyway.
And FUX (I like that) and MLB doesn't care about people like me who can't afford cable anyway.
Ironic, isn't it, that you could watch Roger's minor league starts, but after all the hoopla surrounding his return to the Yankees, you couldn't watch his first game at the Stadium.
