Game 87: Captain 3,000

The title of my post was shamelessly stolen from CBS Sports, I hope they don’t mind.  It’s just so perfect.  With last night’s game postponed, I was hoping that Derek got his 3,000th hit this afternoon, just to get it over with.  Boy did he.  Hit #3,000 came on a HR (Could that have been scripted any better?) and overall, he went 5-5 with 2 RBI for the day.  Not bad, not bad.  Especially when you think about the fact that he’s the first Yankee to get 3,000 hits.  The first.  Not The Babe, not The Iron Horse, not Joltin’ Joe, not The Mick, not any of our classic, storied, and legendary players have reached this milestone…..until now.  Ain’t that somethin’.

Even better than that, was the fact we won the game…..which snapped our 5-game losing streak.  So it was an all-around fantabulous day for Yankees fans.  I hope it continues.

That was awesome LIVE! Nice Blog & I’m sure CBS won’t mind. They actually get money for this:)

It was a tremendous moment. I had the feeling during the game that it would happen that day, but I never would have predicted the homer to do it. Just amazing; the second player (with Boggs) to homer for #3,000, the second player (with Biggio) to have a five-hit day when accomplishing #3,000.

My son was standing next to me wearing his Jeter BP shirt when Jeter hit it, and we went crazy.
