Games 68, 69 & 70: Sweet Home Chicago
Yeah, this is a little late but I’ve got a lot of stuff on my plate right now. Following the Yankees’ sweep of the Rangers, they went on to my hometown of Chicago to take on the Cubs, and took the series 2 games out of 3. They dropped the first game, but won the following two.
The first game wasn’t really that annoying, we got great pitching out of Garcia, whose line ended up at 7 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K. Our offense was the bigger issue, managing only 1 ER and 5 H. The second game was much better, with not only a good start from Burnett (5.1 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 8 K), but marginally better offense. Grandy went 2-3 with an RBI, Alex went 2-4, Robbie went 2-3 with an RBI, and Nunez went 2-4 with an RBI. Not that much more exciting, but at least we won. Sunday’s rubber match on ESPN (my God, they aired a Yankees game where we weren’t playing the Red Sox?! WHAT?!), was also a Yankees victory, with CC not only pitching a fantastic game (7 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, BB, 3 K) but the offense finally showing up. 10 ER on 13 H ought to be enough to win you ballgames. At least I hope it is. Gardy went 3-5 with an RBI, Alex went 3-4 with an RBI, Swish went 3-5 with 4 RBI, Grandy went 1-5 with an RBI, and Mark went 1-4 with an RBI.
All in all, a great series for the Bronx Bombers, even though I can’t stand Interleague play and wish it would just disappear forever (with the exception of the World Series and ASG, of course). Now, on to WKRP in Cincinnati. That by the way, is a show I wish would come back in reruns. I can still sing the theme song. “Baby, if you ever wonder….wonder whatever became of me. I’m living on the air in the Cincinnati. Cincinnati WKRP.”
