Game 42: How’s that for offense?

Well now that was something interesting, huh?  We go from barely being able to score runs to putting up a 13-spot the next night.  Schizophrenic baseball is what we do best, and we do it well.

CC Sabathia got the call to the mound tonight, and pitched just as well as Bartolo Colon did last night.  8 IP, 7 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9 K.  Sanit came in to pitch the 9th, and he gave up 2 ER, but with a 13-run cushion, you don’t sweat it.  Just don’t make a habit of it, k?  Other than that, there’s not much else to say about the pitching — it more than did its job.

So did the offense, shockingly.  The Yanks have had a time of it this season putting together consistent offensive performances, and tonight is part of that consistent inconsistency.  They slugged 13 R on 14 H, and who knows what we’re going to get out of them during this series with the Mets coming up, but I’m sure it won’t be this.  That said, we had several players stand out tonight offensively, and they deserve a mention:  Derek went 2-6 with an RBI, which brings him to just 30 hits from 3,000; Mark went 1-6 with 3 RBI, Nunez went 1-1 with 2 RBI, Russell Martin went 2-4, Jorge went 1-3 with an RBI, Swish went 2-4 with 4 RBI, and Gardy went 2-5 with an RBI.  So as you can see, we got lots of production from varying individuals, and I hope that continues.
