I can honestly say I don’t think I was expecting Bartolo Colon to pitch anywhere near as well as he did, considering that he’s basically our long-relief guy, and trying to turn those guys into starters (or in his case, back into starters) can backfire. He went 6.2 innings, gave up only 2 ER on 5 H, walked two and struck out seven. That’s damn good, actually. The bullpen pitched the last 2.1 innings, giving up only 3 H, 0 ER, and 2 BB. That’s the kind of pitching performance we need more of from everyone.
On the offense side of things, we scored six runs on nine hits. Mark went 3-5, Robbie went 1-3 with 2 RBI, and Grandy went 2-4 with 2 RBI. Our other two runs were courtesy of Jetes and Alex, both of whom were hitless. So Derek remains at 60 hits left until 3,000.
I know it’s a short but sweet round-up today — between the hockey game last night ending late because it was in Phoenix, and me having to get up early this morning to run errands….I’ve been dragging a little. Do excuse. Now can we please get CC a win tonight? For cryin’ out loud.
