Andy made his last start of the regular season this afternoon and due in part to the fact he’s coming off an injury and Girardi wanting to rest as many people as he can before the ALDS, he only lasted 4 innings. His final line was 4 IP, 9 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 8 K. The only thing that’s standing out there is the hit count, but obviously the Sox could hit the ball, but couldn’t do much in the way of run scoring. Robertson, Logan, Chamberlain, Wood and Mo were our bullpen, and they combined for 6 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 6 BB and 10 K. You can’t ask for more from your bullpen, to be honest. A few less walks, but other than that — no complaints from me.
I would have liked to see more consistent offense from the Yanks this afternoon, even if we did end up winning the game. I think the Sox gave us too many opportunities to put the game away, that we promptly squandered. Frankly, we were lucky to plate the 6 runs that we did. Looking at the lineup, a few names stand out of players that had good games — Derek went 2-5, and was instrumental in the winning run coming across the plate (he wasn’t awarded an RBI since the run scored due to an error), Robbie went 3-5 with 2 RBI and Mark went 2-5 with an RBI. We also got RBIs from Grandy and Alex. Hopefully the 2nd game of this DH will feature a bit more offense on the part of the Yanks. Hopefully.
