Javy started the 2nd game of this series with Seattle and didn’t fare that well, lasting only three innings. Granted he didn’t perform that well in the three innings, but he only had 65 pitches, not 85. I don’t know if it was necessary to pull him that early. I think he could have gone another couple innings and saved the pen a bit, but I’m not paid to make those decisions. Unfortunately. Chad Gaudin did yeoman’s work this afternoon, throwing three scoreless innings of relief, giving up only one hit and striking out three. Phenomenal. Boone Logan (who ended up with the win), Dave Robertson and Mo pitched the last three innings, with Mo giving up an uncharacteristic run in the 9th, although it didn’t make a hill of beans difference — he still got the save and we still won the game. I did like his comments in the post-game; he was asked if he ever broke a sweat getting a save and he said “today I did.” What a bada$$.
Any amount of runs today would have been a billion times better than a shutout, so seeing nine runs on ten hits was a revelation. A couple guys had big afternoons — Robbie went 2-4 with 2 RBI, Jorge went 1-3 with 2 RBI and Eduardo Nunez, making his ML debut, went 1-3 and netted the go-ahead RBI for us in the 7th. So congrats to him for that! Also, Derek went 2-5 with an RBI. Nice job all-around for the Bronx Bombers. Let’s please please please please do this tomorrow. Awesome.
