CC was well…..CC. He went out there and showed why he’s making big money in the Bronx and not somewhere else. He threw 8 scoreless innings, giving up only four hits, walking two and striking out six. Can’t ask for more than that, short of a complete game. Mo came in for the 9th and since it wasn’t a save situation, just preserved the win. As though it needed preserving.
Aside from Mark’s 3rd inning grand slam, we got no offense today, but seeing as CC was basically making the Mets his personal b.!tch, we didn’t need more than the grand slam. So we got lucky. Both Derek and Jorge went 2-4, so they get honorable mentions. I wish the blurb about the offense could be a little more descriptive…..but we didn’t get much. Hope our series against Arizona is a burner. At least there’s no Luis Gonzalez this time. *gag*
Stars of the Game™
Santana actually pitched a great game, however his one mistake cost the team the game. CC dialed up a good game and had some great defense behind him. I don’t know how many people actually realize Mark Teixeira’s value as a fielder. Granted he is a converted third baseman, but Tex stretched out like Gumby for a few plays that made the difference between a hit and an out. Gazoo looks to have some wheels as well legging out that triple in the bottom of the 6th. I love the hustle from the young players.
BTW, is this the year if the “slam?” 2009 appeared to be the year of the walk off, this year, Posada has hit two, Grandy, A-Rod, Tex….Just a thought.

Mark’s defensive capabilities have always been one of his strongest selling points, and it also helped highlight how much he was needed, especially over everyone we had playing 1B before he was on the team.

He’s quickly becoming an indispensable part of our lineup. With Jorge’s knees not what they used to be, but his bat still potent, we need someone who can be the everyday catcher and Gazoo is doing a great job. Jorge won’t be here forever and if we can transition him in now, when Po hangs ‘em up, it won’t be such a “crap what do we now?!?!” moment.

That will be awkward, having to face Joe Torre, but I know the guys will handle it well. They’re just another team, a team we need to beat.
